Sitting Around Eating BonBons Chocolate Shop February 26, 2009

How our business came to be:

It all began with an injury … it really did. I had injured my lower back quite severely right after deciding to leave the advertising & marketing world to go into the food industry and was saddened I might have to give up my dream of creating sweets. So… after six months of hard work getting back on my feet and hearing my mother jokingly say “It must be nice to be sitting around eating bonbons.”, I decided I needed to get back to finding my place in the food industry.

I started out as a dishwasher in a bakery which wasn’t my dream job but if it meant I could work in the kitchen I was happy. I wasn’t a dishwasher for long and I moved up the ranks quickly to become bakery manager. I managed the bakery for almost two years before deciding it was time to make my hobby of chocolate making into a real business.

My husband and I started going to Farmer’s Markets while renting a kitchen and response was very good . In October of 2007 we opened our retail and wholesale shop in Etobicoke. Response has been more than we ever hoped for and we continue to grow our business every day.

We now have our own little shop with it’s own kitchen and my dream has come true … I rarely get to “sit around and eat bonbons” but I do find it very fulfilling to make a variety of tasty organic and FairTrade chocolate treats.
